A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ruled that the National Assembly cannot impeach President Muhammadu Buhari right now.
Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday held that the impeachment proceedings initiated by the House of Representatives against the president were invalid.
He said the impeachment proceedings could only be valid if they were initiated before the expiration of the tenure of office of the president.
In his ruling, Justice Buba said that since the president’s term expired on May 29, 2019, the impeachment proceedings initiated by members of the House of Representatives against him were null and void.
