The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd. and oil marketers have been given a 48-hour deadline by the Department of State Service (DSS) to provide Nigerians with fuel.
With fuel prices ranging from N250 to N275 per liter, fuel lines had resurfaced in Lagos and other parts of the country.
The products are also being sold at astronomical prices by operators of the black market.
Following a private meeting that took place in Abuja between representatives of the petroleum industry and the DSS, Peter Afunanya, the agency's spokesman, confirmed the directive to journalists.
He said that the DSS would start working if the stakeholders didn't follow the order at the end of the ultimatum.
The spokesperson pleaded for an immediate resolution to the crisis and lamented the effects of scarcity on Nigerians.
